QB Power Rankings

Exactly 1 month ago today I did my first edition of 2020 NFL power rankings, and now it’s time to rank each teams starting QB. These rankings aren’t based on all time greatness, rather current play.

32- Dwyane Haskins: Too early to tell if Haskins will be worth his first round selection, however year 1 was rough for the rookie.

31- Ryan Fitzpatrick: This isn’t his job for long, however there is no way in hell the Dolphins send Tua out week 1 @ the pats. Fitzmagic is real but never lasts long.

30- Gardner Minshew: played very solid in his rookie season but needs to prove that wasn’t a fluke while also raising his game.

29- Mitchell Trubisky: His accuracy does not meet NFL standards. He has athletic ability and won’t lose you games per say, however he will never win you a game. If he doesn’t step it up the Bears will be moving on in 2021

28- Joe Burrow: It does seem silly to put a guy who has never taken an NFL snap above 4 other guys but that’s how good Burrow is. Theres a reason he will be the only rookie QB starting week 1, he’s a different breed.

27- Drew Lock: The hype is real here, Lock finished the season for Denver and won 4 out of his 5 starts, including a win in Houston. The Broncos have surronded him with weapons, now it’s time to see if Lock can put together the season some think will come with an MVP.

26- Tyrod Taylor: Easily was the best backup in the NFL and will be able to win the Chargers games this upcoming season.

25- Sam Darnold: The mess that is the New York Jets went 0-3 without Darnold and 706 with him, including 6-2 in the last 8 games. From terrible line play to Adam Gase sucking, Darnold has already overcome a lot and has a chance to take the next step.

24- Daniel Jones: Really happy for this guy, hated and called a bust before ever playing a snap, Jones stepped into the QB1 role and proved he had what it took to be a franchise type player. If he cuts down the turnovers then he will be a pro bowler, remember this.

23- Baker Mayfield: Was there a more disappointing player in football last year than Mayfield? The exciting rookie went into year 2 with Odell being added and somehow got worse. I truly think Baker is a good QB, he just has to focus and learn from 2019.

22- Jared Goff- I never saw the hype with Goff, he is a turnover machine who without a running game is piss poor.

21- Teddy Bridgewater: He is solid and will never be horrible, however i’ve never really thought he was exceptional at anything.

20- Phillip Rivers: 2019 was Rivers worst season by far, and now that he has a better offensive line that should change in 2020. If he protects the football better he can return to the elite form he once had.

19- Cam Newton: This is such an interesting situation for the pats and Cam. The Panthers never really protected Newton and that’s why he was hurt all the time, in New England he will have better pass protection but a huge downgrade in weapons. I think adding Cam gives the Pats 3 or 4 more wins.

18- Josh Allen: If you like never knowing where the football is going then this is the guy for you. He has all the talent in the world but still needs to work on his football IQ. I expect the addition of Diggs to really help his growth as a QB however.

17- Jimmy G: If he makes that throw to Sanders in the Super Bowl he would be looked at as one of the better QB’s in the game, however he really stunk when it mattered the most which is what lots of people questioned about him. He’s still solid and productive, however I don’t really think he will ever be looked at as elite.

16- Kyler Murray: I was very skeptical about Murray choosing football but my god was I wrong. If he can stay healthy I view him as a Russell Wilson type QB. His accuracy and game changing speed make him one of the most interesting young players in the league.

15- Derek Carr: I’ve always thought Carr was a mid tier guy who was good enough to win some games but not a franchise guy. I wouldn’t want to start a franchise with Carr but I wouldn’t be distraught if he was my QB.

14- Dak Prescott: This man has produced every season so far but has also had and incredible supporting cast around him. The numbers are solid and the growth is evident in his game, however he needs to be better when things around him aren’t going well.

13- Matthew Stafford: His talent is absurd, and before his back injury he was playing at an MVP type level in 2019. Don’t get it confused, the Lions suck, not Stafford.

12- Ryan Tannehill: I used to wait for him to breakout in Miami and it never happened, but once he got a chance with the Titans he was really good. I’d like to see him do it again before putting him higher, but Tannehill was for sure playing elite football in 2019.

11- Ben Roethlisberger: Big Ben coming back should scare the NFL, his last healthy season he passed for over 5,000 yards. He isn’t a top dog but he is still a very good QB.

10- Kirk Cousins: What he did in 2019 proved a lot of people wrong. His lived up to his contract with a career season that even included a road playoff win that he was a huge part of.

9- Matt Ryan: The Falcons defense has now ruined two pretty good season from Matty ice. The dude has always been reliable to produce and although not absurdly talented always finds a way to light the stat sheet up.

8- Tom Brady: The man still has what it takes to win, the problem is that even with the NFL’s #1 defense in 2019 he simply couldn’t produce like the normal Tom Brady. Part of that was because his supporting cast was terrible, which will not be a problem in Tampa.

7- Carson Wentz: What he did at the end of 2019 with nobody to throw to was awesome. The talent and poise Wentz has is nearly impossible to beat, the main problem is he fumbles too often and can’t seem to catch a break health wise.

6- Deshaun Watson: He has every trait you want in an NFL QB, the only thing that isn’t ideal is he can be inconsistent at times but 99.9% of QB’s are. If the Texans don’t win a super bowl with Watson then they failed him.

5- Drew Brees: Completes a better % than anyone even in his 40’s. The stats and accolades Brees puts up is just silly, however he tends to be less efficient on the road or in the playoffs, and not just a little bit, like it’s substantial.

4- Aaron Rodgers: The talent around him keeps getting worse but that doesn’t stop AR12. He is still talented and has the best football IQ out of any QB in the league. As he ages it’s wise of the Packers to ask him to throw less, which is exactly what they did in 2019 when Aaron Jones ran for 16 touchdowns.

3- Lamar Jackson: The 2019 MVP set the league on fire with his running and passing threat. If he gets better at middle of the field accuracy I don’t see how anybody can stop him.

2- Russell Wilson: Wilson is just insane, he doesn’t have a flaw in his game. Honestly i’m begging someone to tell me what he can’t do at an elite level. If you gave him more to work with I think he’d be putting up 40+ touchdowns a season.

1- Patrick Mahomes: I can’t even put it into words, Mahomes just has a factor to his game that nobody else has. If he stays healthy I can’t see anybody stopping him from being one of the best ever, what he is able to do even in games that he starts off poorly is very Golden State esque. He gets hot and theres nothing an opposing team can do.
